HOLDANCA FARMS
FREE RANGE MEATS
Holdanca Farms has always promoted education
as part of an ongoing program in consumer awareness. Offering
seasonal farm tours and on site demonstrations, John Duynisveld
and his family seek to inform the curious and concerned in
the techniques employed to raise all livestock in a humane, healthy
environment. As consumers, many of us have discovered very
legitimate concerns in recent years relating to our daily food
intake and how little we actually know about the way it is produced.
Holdanca Farms operates on an 'open door' policy, educating any
and all who seek to make informed decisions regarding their
lifestyle choices in diet and nutrition. Some of the most
frequently asked questions are:
Q:What is 'Free Range'?
Our free range livestock are raised on feeds free of antibiotics,
animal by-products, and growth hormones. They have access to
fresh air, green grass and sunshine and are processed at government inspected facilities. The 'Free Range' guidelines were
developed by the provincial poultry marketing boards, who
certify our poultry. We voluntarily raise our pork and beef
under the same guidelines.
Q: What is 'Pasturing'?
Pasturing utilizes the practice of allowing livestock to do what
comes naturally. They roam the fields, feeding on fresh grass and
natural grains. Because of a natural diet, the end product contains
much less of the harmful fats and cholesterol associated with mass
production facilities. The eating habits of pastured are comparable
to you choosing a fresh, home grown salad for each meal. The
nutrients our livestock choose from their 'salad' are passed on to you.
